The construction phase of the new multipurpose hall at Darwin Middle School has been awarded to the local Territory company Sunbuild Pty Ltd. Works have now commenced at the site; with the expected completion date being November 2019.
The new multipurpose hall will provide various modern and flexible areas supporting sports, music, arts, drama and provide a contemporary indoor space for school assemblies and events. The facility also includes an indoor basketball court with retractable seating, a multifunction drama and a dance space that converts to a studio theatre, two classrooms, teacher preparation areas and storage.
The multipurpose hall will be an engaging facility which will enhance the school's ability to provide a high-quality education across a range of subject areas. This project will benefit the 2,000 students located at the Bullocky Point Education Precinct, surrounding feeder schools and the wider community.
The construction of the multipurpose hall will create around 100 jobs, including 31 Aboriginal workers and one Aboriginal apprentice. For more information on the Bullocky Point project visit www.education.nt.gov.au
